Hi all,
I created a support ticket with Symantec about doing a bare metal restore of a Windows Server 2003 server running a combination of Business Portal, SharePoint, and Microsoft Dynamics SL. I wanted to test to see if Backup Exec 2014 (running on a Windows 2012R2 server) could restore this 2003 server using the recovery iso. After many calls back and forth, the tech finally told me that Backup Exec not only could not restore this server but it cannot restore any Windows Server 2003 machine. When I told him I had successfully backed up Windows 2003 Servers with Backup Exec 2014. he told me that, yes, you can back the servers up but you cannot restore them. WHAT?? Why in the world would a product allow you to backup a server but not be able to restore it? This makes no sense to me at all. This product is useless in my migration project of moving all my servers to at least Windows Server 2008 R2. I had intended to restore my files and folders to the new server machines from my old Windows Server 2003 machines that I had backed up using Backup Exec 2014. I hope this tech is wrong about restoring Windows 2003 Servers.
So here are my questions to the forum. Has anyone been successful restoring a Windows 2003 Server using the bare metal restore iso using Backup Exec 2014? Has anyone been successful restoring files and folders from a Windows 2003 Server using Backup Exec 2014. Any suggestions would be reallly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
Bob
