Due to application upgrades, I am retiring some Win2k3 VM servers being backed up by Backup Exec 2010 R3, and will be replacing them with upgraded VMs (new web application versions) under same NetBIOS/DNS names and also with same Win2k3 operating system.
I do not wish to be able to restore from the "old" VMs onto the the "new" VMs, but I need to retain the "old" backups due to data retention requirements. I also need to keep the same backup job, policy, media set, and backup selection list name from the "old" to the "new" servers due to corporate requirements. Is this possible to do? If so, how can I best accomplish?
If it is not possible, will I still need to delete and recreate the backup jobs (job, policies, backup selection lists, media sets) when I reload the VMs, or will the jobs continue to function as normal since the VMs have the same name?
