Backup Exec 2012 seeing multiple USB drives as same storage

I have a standard 2008 storage server, patched, and running backups to an internal disk array.  Job are set to duplicate to external USB drives for basic offsite storage rotation.

Its been working like a charm with my large 2TB seagates but my recently WD passports it seems Backup Exec can't seem to tell apart.  Seagate drives are identifief correctly, either the WD are problem or I have a new problem.

Has anyone had an issue like this, and perhaps a solution?  Support cold dropped me immediately saying the external USB where not on the HCL.  I am trying to understand why if USB drive "X" works what possible would cause Backup Exec not to see "Y"
