Restoring data on LTO 4 tape with LTO 6 drive

Hi there,

We are using Backup Exec on a Windows 2003 server.

We make a backup using vRanger and those files are then put on tape using Bckup Exec.

Because we needed more space on the tapes to make a backup we installed a LTO 6 drive in our IBM TS3100 library.

No problems, we even tried a restore and that worked. This was Januray this year.

My problem is this:

I need a file that is on a tape made in 2012.

I can see the repository on the LTO 4 tape. I can see size, date, time name, everything.

But when iI try to do a import I get this:

Please insert media into the portal.

Respond OK to acknowledge.
Respond Cancel to cancel the operation

When I do a restore I get this:

Please insert media 'A00041L4' into the robotic library by creating an Import media job.

If the media does not have a bar code, click Options on the Import Job Properties, and select 'Auto-inventory after import is completed'.

We do use barcodes and as I said, the tape is found in the right slot, with the right.

The only thing Symantec is telling me is to update drivers but that is a no go in our company.

We haven't update anything for over a year on this server because we had no problems.

It used to work, that we have tested.

Regards,

Cornee
