Hello. I am running Backup Exec 2012 on a Windows 2003 64-bit server. I was previously using a tape backup that failed and so was recommended to backup to disk. However; this disk device (NAS) is not large enough so when talking with sales people that are supposed to know my options, inlcuding Symantec, told me to purchase the De-Duplication option for Backup Exec. So, I purchased it. I couldn't get the services to start, so wiped it out and after much cleaning up after my original Backup Exec configuration, I had a clean slate and reinstalled Backup Exec 2012 and let updates run.
So, I am now in the confiugration process of my storage. I go to storage and select the Disk Based Storage option, I have and select the Deduplication Disk Storage option, give it a name and here it then asks me for new, my only option is to select Local Storage, meaning internal disk to this server. If I map a drive to this NAS device, it does not show up in this list. So, thought I'd try the other option, put in the shared path to my NDX and get the following error "Network drives are not supported for deduplication disk storage. I am at my whits end! How do I use this storage? It's only purpose is to house backups and it was purchased with that in mind as it's a storage leader, a Quantum. I stuck with Backup Exec as that's what we've been using, but starting to think that my only option is to spend more money again to try to fix this and toss Backup Exec and go with the Quantum software.
Looking for suggestions, step by step, or whatever it takes to get this storage to be useful. Due to the failed tape drive, running out of room when moving to this and now the deduplication nightmare, my backups are non-existant. I apologize for my tone, but completely frustrated. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
